Project Spotlight: A Custom “Gingko Grand” for Harborview Builders

PROJECT: Private Residence Rotunda Feature Lighting
CLIENT: Harborview Builders
DATE: Nov 2025

PROJECT BACKGROUND: Harborview Builders commissioned Hermanlamps to create a signature light for a newly built coastal residence. The brief: a custom Gingko Grand chandelier that would descend through a double-height circular rotunda and spiral stair—light, sculptural, and tailored to the architecture. Prior to fabrication we supplied full shop drawings (suspension layout, loads, wiring runs, leaf density) and a scaled concept rendering for client approval. The final installation achieved a continuous, cascading “ribbon” of gingko leaves with a warm, even glow.

A Floating Ribbon for a Grand Stair

Rotundas are natural theaters. Our goal was to give this space a luminous centerpiece that reads like art by day and atmosphere by night. The solution was a multi-cluster Gingko composition that “waves” gently in plan and tapers as it drops, preserving sightlines from every landing.

Why This Fixture Works Here

  • Architectural Fit – The vertical composition mirrors the stair’s sweep, anchoring the void without visual heaviness.

  • Quiet Luxury – Hand-finished porcelain-white leaves with soft nickel accents deliver sparkle without glare.

  • Human Experience – Warm, dimmable LEDs create a calm, welcoming mood for arrivals and evening gatherings.

The Gingko Grand: Custom Features

  • Sculptural Clusters – Tiered gingko “blooms” arranged along an S-curve for movement and balance.

  • Clean Ceiling Line – Reinforced multi-point canopy with concealed feeds; transparent conductors keep the look weightless.

  • Precision Suspension – Height-adjustable stainless cables and jig-aligned terminations for perfect leveling.

  • Serviceable, Efficient Light – Dimmable G9 LED sources tuned warm; field-aimed for uniform glow along the full descent.

From Drawings to Installation

  1. Design & Engineering – We modeled drop lengths, center-of-gravity, and clearances; issued shop drawings and a lighting study for approval.

  2. Studio Mock-Up – Each cluster was hung on a jig to choreograph spacing, leaf density, and sightlines from below.

  3. On-Site Build – We filmed a step-by-step installation tutorial at our factory, and the client’s electrician completed the on-site install using it. The whole process went smoothly.

The Result

By day, the chandelier reads as a porcelain sculpture threading the rotunda; by night, it becomes a soft, continuous ribbon of light that leads the eye through the stair. The piece feels native to the architecture—elegant, quiet, and memorable the moment you step inside.
