When we think of a "basement bar" or a "man cave," we often imagine dark corners and neon signs. But looking at the latest project by the talented team at Scarlet Reagan, we are reminded that underground spaces can be the most sophisticated rooms in the house.
In this featured project, the "Boys' Basement," designer Kristi proves that with bold materials and the right statement lighting, a lower-level recreation area can feel like a private VIP club.

The Design Challenge: Low Ceilings, High Style Basements often present a unique challenge: managing lower ceilings while trying to create an open, airy atmosphere. You need lighting that draws the eye up without cluttering the visual field.
For the expansive bar area—featuring stunning green marble and warm wood cabinetry—the design required a fixture that could span the length of the counter while adding a touch of industrial-modern edge.
Kristi’s solution? Repetition.
Instead of one solitary fixture, she installed three Rhome II Chandeliers (Matte Black) in a row.
-
Why it works: This creates a "canopy" effect that visually defines the bar zone. The molecular, branching structure of the Rhome II adds an organic touch that contrasts beautifully with the sharp geometric lines of the bar front.
The Supporting Act: Layered Illumination A common mistake in basement design is relying on just one light source. To make a space feel cozy and lived-in, you need layers.
To complement the overhead chandeliers, the design incorporates two Rhome II Wall Sconces.
-
The Detail: Notice how the sconces flank the wall areas, providing soft accent lighting that draws the eye across the room.
-
The Finish: By sticking to the Matte Black finish for both the chandeliers and sconces, the lighting hardware acts as a cohesive thread that ties the entire room together, matching the black bar stools and window frames.

The Verdict This project proves that "masculine" design doesn't have to be heavy or dull. It’s about balance—balancing the weight of stone and leather with the airiness of sculptural lighting.
Get the Look This project is a masterclass in layering. The "Boys' Basement" isn't just a place to watch the game; it's a design destination.
